Hi!I am interested in a psychology master's degree in the USA.Are the online degrees reliable?
I live in Greece and it is important to know if those online degrees are valid here. I am aware that there are certain requirements, but i don't know which online program meets them..Do you know any degree that is for sure reliable and has been recognized in Greece?Or if I were to live in the States, do you know if there are any master degree's that last for one year?I am interested in the area of counselling or that of eating disorders..Thanks!!

University of Phoenix, and Kaplan University both offer online psychology degrees which are accredited by the North American Association- The same as most major universities.

There are no fully accredited graduate-level Internet programs in psychology that I know of in the USA. Which means that whatever useless degree you get from them will not be enough for you to be licensed or certified in your state of residence, and therefore you will not be able to practice any kind of counseling or psychotherapy. I would not want you to be led astray by the person who said, "University of Phoenix, and Kaplan University both offer on line psychology degrees which are accredited by the North American Association- The same as most major universities." The fact is, the only "North American Association" that accredits on-line programs is the one that specifically states it is to accredit only those programs that do not meet the minimum guidelines of actual accrediting agencies. This bogus outfit is NOT the same as those who accredit major universities. Your best bet is to enroll in a legitimate program at a legitimate university. A masters degree in psychology is likely to take two full years.

Well, your question has been up here for 3 hours with no answers. I don't know, either, but I didn't want you to feel unloved. Here in the Americas, just about all the universities are engaged in the mad dash to get their courses on-line. Those first ones are REALLY hard to get going and promoted, especially in countries like Ecuador that is better known for educational inequality than full literacy. Given your mature background, you might be an excellent candidate to help a Bangalore university make that leap.

Do you agree that in order to truly master psychology one must be able to control people, absolutely

Do you agree that in order to truly master psychology one must be able to control people, absolutely?
The purpose of psychology is to understand how the human brain works. To truly master anything is not just to understand the concepts and theories, but to actually apply them. Applied psychology uses persuasion and knowledge to achieve a goal, whatever that may be. What do you think psychologists actually do? (or any profession in psychology anyways) Whenever you guide someone to their destination, you are manipulating them. You're telling them where to go, to get where they need to be. It's a form of voluntary control. Psychology is not about healing, though it may be use for healing. That's like saying mathematics is about designing technology.

No, not really, there are many other gifts that people have and master Psychology. It is not the only one. Plus it is not really necessary. I hope this answers your question.

To master any discipline requires, at the very least, mastering that discipline's concepts. There is no relation between mastering psychology and controlling people. You only think this because you assume that psychology is about controlling people--and that's not even in the ballpark. Your question demonstrates that you have no idea what you are talking about.

3
Yes, I do agree. Psychology is understanding personality and how the mind reacts in certain situations. Therefore for someone to TRULY master psychology, they must be able to completely understand what a person would do in a situation and how they would react causing them to be able to control them

4
No,You truly need to understand yourself. You can never control other people,You may think you do but you really can't.

5
wishing to be in a position which involves controlling people absolutely sounds more than faintly like the desire of someone who truly needs counseling, rather than one who can offer competent help. some of my friends are wonderful therapists, and their focus seems to be more on compassion and the application of various therapeutic techniques, both eastern and western, none of which involve "controlling" the client. rather , among other modalities, they involve helping the client to become more conscious/aware of his/her patterns, issues, and projections. and, to practice, personally, those techniques which aid in quieting the mind and calming the self, generally.

6
The science of Psychology is to understand the many aspects of the human mind. The Art of Therapy is to help guide the client to their own solutions. Mind control doesn't fit in this equation.

7
Yes Agree Fully, One must posses the ability to gain control over a persons Brain and Body but that too up to a limited area, distance, period not full fledge.

Psychology is about understanding, insight, and healing. While modulation and self control is part of the healing process, it is not for the therapist or psychologist to exert control of people. There are those therapists that do see their role as ring master, but real healing comes from the individual. The knowledge gained from psychology guides the person away from the hurt to a more fulfilled and fruitful life. Psychology is more about healing than control. The Psychologist holds no control over another. They just have objective insight to facilitate a new path. If you want to control people join the police department.

Don't worry about not having a BA in psych. My wife has a Master's in psych and she had a BA in dental hygiene. You need to demonstrate that you are an intelligent person who did well in your classes. If you have life and/or work experience in which you worked with people that would be good to highlight. You'll have to learn about the brain and the nervous system, so any background there would be good. Don't let the English background stop you. You know how to write, you know how to think carefully about a topic before you begin writing. Doing research and writing reports for publication in psychology journals is an important part of being a psychologist. Emphasize your skills in those areas. Michael http://www.thepsychfiles.com

Are you serious? I'm the opposite! I have a masters in psych but now I want to get my doc in English! Crazy! Yes, you still can. There was a girl in my grad school who had an english degree but was accepted to the psych masters program. It can happen, but isn't guaranteed. The extraneous variable is the competition (other applicants) since grad schools for psych are usually very competitive. You'll be competing against other applicants, most of whom will have extensive backgrounds in psychology, therefore they will be more suited for acceptance than you, but yeah you definitey have a shot.
