What can you do with a masters in psychology

What can you do with a masters in psychology?
I know that I'd be better off with a certified or licensed position as a counselor, but I don't know if I can fit the internships into my life as a full time working mother. Is a masters in general psychology actually worth anything?

You can teach, do research and work on getting your LPC. You might just want to continue on for your PhD.

You can help the police to solve crimes.

Like you said counseling is the big thing. But there is also school psychologists, teaching psych. to college students, and you could proabably get a job doing social work. For almost any position you have to be licensed & in my state pass Praxsius 1 & 2. Look through the job ad's and see what most jobs require.

you can be a forensic psychologist and help the cops solve crimes =))

If the master's degree you're thinking of is in general psych, there really won't be much that you can do with that degree, other than put the knowledge you gain to work in a retail or business setting. The Ph.D. is the entry level degree in psychology (as opposed to counseling, where the entry level degree is the master's). With only a master's degree and without a clinical focus (again, as you would get in a counseling, marriage and family therapy or social work degree), you just have advanced knowledge in the field of general psychology. If you're interested in working in the field, I would recommend that you find a way to fit the internships into your experience. There are a number of programs where you can go part-time and get a degree in counseling. Make sure that the program you are looking at is "regionally accredited." An example would be accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (www.sacscoc.org).
