Can you get a Master's degree in Education if you have a BS in Psychology?
I want to become a guidance counselor in either NJ or PA and I wanted to know if I HAVE to get a Masters in Psychology or if I can go for a Masters in Education if I am graduating undergrad with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology.

hi, you don't need a masters degree in psych to be a school counselor. different universities will call the degree different things, but you need a masters in education with specialization in counseling. that's what they call it at my university.

Whether or not you have a good job or any job at all! Of course a doctorate is better. It takes much longer to get and the work is much more difficult. A doctorate is the standard professional degree in psychology and will open every door for you. You can easily earn 150-200K or more. Getting just a masters is not a good idea. You will always have much worse jobs than people with doctorates and will not feel good about your situation as you will be a "second class citizen" in your profession.

After you finish a four year program with a degree in Psychology, you will then go on and take another 36 credits and then you will earn a Master's degree in Psychology. If you then are not sick of studying this topic and want a particular job that would require a Doctoral degree you could pursue a Doctorate which requires more study and a research project and what is called a Doctoral Thesis. You then have to defend your research to a group of experts to get the degree, My recommendation to you is to spend all the time that you can reading about everything that you can so that you can pick up these commonly known things. Getting a good basic education is the most important thing at this point in your life.

How difficult is admission into a Psychology Master's Program?
I'm interested in Marriage and Family Therapy, Clinical, Counseling etc.

Its pretty difficult- To give you an idea, I had a 3.3, with a gre- 560q,480v,5.5w and didnt get into any of the 10 schools I applied to (and I wasnt applying to anything too difficult- even applied to Western Kentucky University). I had several research opportunities, did a senior honors thesis which ended up being published, excellent letters of rec etc. To get in, you really need a 3.6+ with a gre combined q/v of around 1200+. It does depend on what you apply for though. IE-clinical is harder- but you need a phd to do anything with it as masters isnt recognized. MFT is usually housed in the social work department, thus, its easier to get in. (Thats what I ended up doing, going into clinical social work- all pays the same when you get done, but I still later went after a phd in school psychology- which is where I am now.) Counseling- that depends on what you want to do- school counseling is easier as its housed in the education department, but clinical counseling is the middle ground- harder than mft but easier than clinical itself. Can a BBA degree person do a Master in Psychology and Human Behavior? Where in US or Uk Offers such courses?
I also live in Asia, which would make me an international applicants. Some Universities i have searched dont have International Admissions. So its really hard to find the information online. So if you know. Please help. Would Appreciate it very much. Thank you.

If you have a bachelor degree in psychology, what Master degree other than psychology can you apply for?

Well my friend just received her bachelor degree in Psychology as well and I think she's planning on getting a masters in Social Work.

You can have a bachelors in Psychology and go to Grad School in any discipline. There is no set path you must take. Good Luck.

With a bachelors in psychology you could opt for a masters in psychology, counseling, social work, and most "social science" fields. If you were to chose one of these options you might have to take a few core classes along with your grad courses, but it is likely that you would be accepted for the program. I don't think that you would gain admission to an MBA program, but there are a few choices out there. Edited: Frenchie- No need to get defensive, different schools have different policies and yours may differ from mine. If you have undergrad courses that consist of some business classes then yes, it's possible. However, at the school I attended Psychology was a bachelor of arts and few people I knew were interested enough to take elective classes in business. Friends of mine that decided to go for an MBA because they later realized that psych wasn't for them couldn't get into the program because they didn't have the fundamentals necessary and were instructed to take more classes and reapply. It just depends on the school you want to attend.

For instance, I'm getting a bachelor's in Psychology, then master's in mental health counseling, and Ph.D in Clinical Psychology. You can do that or anything you want. I had a professor who had a bachelor's in math and went to graduate school for religious studies. It doesnt matter.

How long will it take to get my Bachelor's/Master's degrees in Psychology
How long will it take to get my Bachelor's/Master's degrees in Psychology?
My question is, how long will it take for me to get both my Bachelors and Masters in psychology if i can only attend school part-time. Because I certainly can't do full-time. Thanks! And how long would it take normally full time?

well, a full time student goes to school 3-4 years to get their bachelor's degree. if you can only go part time, i would assume it would take you between 4 and 6 years to finish your bachelor's degree. usually people who go on to get their masters in psychology spend 5 to 7 years in graduate school, but if you plan on going part time then it may take longer than that.
